ULV (Ultra Low Volume) spraying is an effective pest control method against houseflies and medium-sized insects. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends using droplet sizes between 30–50 microns (µm) for this method. This particle size ensures effective contact of the chemical with the target organisms.
In the ULV method, the liquid chemical is atomized into micron-sized droplets without using heat, by high air flow through vortical (swirling) type nozzles. This results in a low-volume but widely dispersed application.
The 30–50 micron droplet size;
✔ Is more effective on medium-sized pests such as houseflies,
✔ Balances the time the chemical remains suspended in the air and directs it toward the target,
✔ Reduces unnecessary drift and environmental loss.
The ULV method provides controlled and effective pest control in urban areas, animal shelters, barns, waste sites, and similar environments. It is especially ideal when the biocidal chemical needs to reach the target at an optimum dose.
